Foreign targeting of defence insiders ramped up after AUKUS deal: ASIO

Foreign spies ramped up their targeting of bureaucrats and defence insiders with access to the country’s most sensitive documents after the AUKUS pact was revealed, according to ASIO, which wants to take control of top security vetting to better tackle the threat.

The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation said there was a genuine threat of people in parliament, the public service, defence and the judiciary being compromised by hostile foreign powers.
