Despite the mediocrity of the candidates, America is not down for the count. But it is wasting precious time to redefine its world role

Regardless of whether it is Kamala Harris or Donald Trump, American globalism is not in retreat, but its meaning will continue to change. And Washington, while ever preoccupied with internal crises and challenges, cannot attempt to build a new order to replace the one it constructed after the Second World War.
