Wild weather across NSW, Victoria and Tasmania has claimed a woman’s life, created havoc at airports, damaged hundreds of properties and cut power to more than 140,000 homes.

Violent winds caused major delays at Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra airports, with dozens of flights cancelled by the extreme weather that hit on Sunday night and continued throughout Monday.
