Firefighters battle ‘potentially catastrophic’ breakdowns in Vic blaze

Firefighters have batted “potentially catastrophic” tanker breakdowns as fires ripped through Victoria’s west; areas have been evacuated of thousands of residents one week after extreme weather cut power from 530,000 properties.

Residents from communities near Ballarat were told to “leave immediately” as the bushfire, which began at Bayindeen on Thursday, accelerated and burned more than 11,000 hectares as of Friday.
