Net zero chief’s warning on bungled energy transitions

Labor’s new net zero chief says energy companies risk undermining support for the green transition unless they provide critical support for displaced workers, including flexible time off to allow for reskilling and training.

David Shankey, the inaugural chief executive of the Net Zero Economy Authority, said his organisation would use its legislative powers to ensure energy companies pursuing the closure of coal-fired generation assets do so in a way that smooths the transition for their workforce.
