Cadbury owner’s plan to stop importing waste for chocolate wrappers

Global confectionary giant Mondelez International and packaging manufacturer Amcor have backed the construction of Australia’s first advanced plastics recycling plant, a move that will help ease a crisis highlighted by Redcycle’s collapse last year.

Darren O’Brien, president of Mondelez Australia, New Zealand and Japan, said the company had put in place a target of 30 per cent recycled content in its packaging last year but had to import the recycled plastics because Australia did not have an advanced recycling facility.
