Labor waters down support for carbon capture and storage

Labor members have turned their backs on capturing and storing carbon from gas production, and for manufacturing, after the party conference passed a motion that would limit the technology to hard-to-abate sectors such as cement making.

The revised platform, which was passed late on Thursday, dramatically waters down Labor’s position on the use of carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) in the nation’s highly complex and costly decarbonisation pathway in coming decades.
