Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong has warned that one of Australia’s closest and poorest neighbours faces significant financial independence challenges, underlining the need to develop a new gas project in the Timor Sea with partner Woodside Energy.
East Timor President Jose Ramos-Horta is due to meet Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Canberra this week and will speak at the national press club on Wednesday.
