‘The beginning of the end’: Labor eyes domestic gas reserve

The Albanese government will consider reserving a portion of gas from any new or expanded export projects amid fresh warnings that Australia’s east coast could experience supply shortfalls before the end of 2025.

Energy and Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen on Monday confirmed a government review of the east-coast market will consider replacing gas price caps with a new system that places obligations on gas producers to offer supply to domestic customers, as first reported by The Australian Financial Review last month.
