Why WA thinks it’s so special

The December GDP figures underline why West Australians feel their contribution to the nation is underappreciated rather than overpaid.

Jim Chalmers’ statement on Australia’s anaemic growth figures didn’t even mention the contribution of the mining sector in at least keeping the economy in positive territory in the December quarter.

That omission is even more notable given the importance of iron ore and coal exports in providing much of the ballast for the Labor government to keep spending on households and wages.
