What I’m watching for in this year’s budget

Federal budgets are, it is sometimes joked in Canberra, like the AFL grand final for economics journalists. Reporters are locked away at Parliament House, poring over hundreds of pages of budget documents.

The media receives the official budget papers under embargo about six hours before the outside world finds out what’s in the nation’s fiscal documents.
