Senior Victorian government officials were meeting on Wednesday night over whether to impose new COVID-19 restrictions in response to the state’s growing outbreak, with venue limits and home visitor caps among the rules being considered.

An estimated 2000 Melburnians who attended the AFL over the weekend joined the residents of a 78-apartment complex in Maribyrnong in the city’s north-west to be forced to test and isolate, after a crew of Sydney removalists who failed to wear masks while working sparked havoc across four states.
