There may not be another mogul like Rupert Murdoch
As a business owner, the Australian media magnate showed unusual foresight in a tough and politically contentious industry.
On June 2, 1952, the 27-year-old Queen Elizabeth II was crowned at Westminster Abbey in London. Four months later, a 67-year-old Australian newspaper man, Keith Murdoch, died unexpectedly at his farm on Melbourne’s outskirts.
He left a modest afternoon newspaper to his son Rupert, who would become Australia’s most-influential international businessman and, like Queen Elizabeth, one of the signature figures of the second half of the 20th century.
