RBA may be told to hold press conferences; Barrenjoey talk queried

Treasurer Jim Chalmers has discussed with the independent review of the Reserve Bank of Australia how the bank can improve publicly explaining interest rate decisions, a move that could open the door for regular press conferences.

Dr Chalmers revealed the direction of the review after being questioned on national television about The Australian Financial Review’s report that governor Philip Lowe spoke to interest rate traders at the country’s major banks at a private event hosted by Barrenjoey on Thursday.
