Opposition savings from housing, green energy funds in doubt

The Coalition would shrink government and rein in spending but opposition finance spokeswoman Jane Hume has conceded that realising tens of billions in savings by scrapping the Housing Australia Future Fund and the National Reconstruction Fund would carry political and sovereign risks.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton used his first major appearance of the year on Sunday to criticise the Albanese government for hiring 36,000 extra public servants during its term and subsidising what he described as risky projects in green hydrogen and quantum computing.
