On census night, August 10, 2021, the Australian Bureau of Statistics didn’t have to worry much about people not being home.

Greater Sydney was 45 days into a lockdown that would last more than 100, Melbourne was five days into its sixth lockdown, and the ACT government was days away from issuing stay-at-home orders that would last months.
