On census night 2021 large parts of Australia were in lockdown. But despite the dire situation, the five-yearly snapshot of the nation showed a country going from strength-to-strength.

Greater Sydney was 45 days into a lockdown that would last more than 100, Melbourne was five days into its sixth lockdown, and the ACT government was days away from issuing stay-at-home orders that would last months.
