The Morrison government is under political pressure for backing down on plans to impose tougher anti-money laundering laws, following its outspoken criticism of Westpac's alleged 23 million money-laundering breaches.

Lawyers, accountants and real estate agents have repeatedly succeeded in lobbying federal governments to indefinitely delay the "Tranche 2" anti-money laundering laws that were to be extended to their industries.
