Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce has secured critical support from at least three state premiers for the national cabinet to agree to a framework for keeping domestic borders open once the vaccination rollout has reached 4 million people from early April.
Mr Joyce has been meeting state premiers to push for a national standard on domestic borders by April and for international travel by October. It comes after the national airline reported a $1 billion half-year loss last week and Auckland went into a seven-day lockdown on Sunday.
