Might it be that AFR rich-lister Tim Gurner is talking through his pocket in his rather regrettable put-down of Melbourne and the state of Victoria? (“Melbourne broke and cold”).

Gurner laments that, in his property-developer mindset, “Victoria is broke” and that “property prices don’t go up”. Then again, “being broke” is something property developers – and more particularly their builder associates – would appreciate only too well.
