'Fascination with housing' won't make us rich, says RBA's Phil Lowe

Australians' obsession with property won't make the nation better off as a whole, warned Reserve Bank of Australia deputy governor Philip Lowe, in a speech that shows policymakers are looking toward the day when they can begin to normalising interest rates.

While the record low cash rate is helping the economy after the resources boom by pulling down the dollar, Dr Lowe indicated spurring growth would require more than endless monetary policy stimulus.
