Dutton urged to index income tax brackets

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton is being urged by some Liberal colleagues to outbid Labor on personal tax cuts and consider annually increasing income tax thresholds to stop inflation eroding people’s incomes.

Some Coalition MPs and conservative economists see indexing income tax thresholds in line with inflation as a way to restrain the government’s tax take and keep a lid on ever-increasing government spending.
