Chalmers’ big test: tax reform or more tax grabs?

The treasurer will embark on a long-overdue tax reform, but it remains to be seen whether Labor can implement the changes needed to improve living standards.

Jim Chalmers after three years as treasurer has raised the bar to embark on a long-overdue tax reform package, but it remains to be seen if Labor can implement serious changes that will improve people’s living standards.

It’s a positive step that the treasurer has begun a conversation about tax reform and urged interest groups to put down their political weapons to try to forge consensus in the national interest at a productivity roundtable in August.
