The Tax Office and the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission have forged a five-country alliance with the US, the UK, Canada and the Netherlands to run joint operations targeting cyber crime, crypto currency fraud and money laundering.
While Australia shares security intelligence with the US and the UK in the Five Eyes program, and routinely shares tax information under tax treaties, the newly founded Joint Chiefs of Global Tax Enforcement, known as the J5, fills a gap sharing resources to tackle serious financial crime.
