Treasurer's windfall splits economists looking for demand boost

The federal budget has been alternately described as a “meaningful” source of fiscal easing and “underwhelming”, unleashing debate among economists over whether the Treasurer’s fiscal plan will be able to boost demand.
On the same day that the economy recorded a record trade surplus and the best seasonally adjusted retail sales growth since November 2017, reaction to the 2019-20 budget has split experts.
