ASX to rise as traders welcome Trump’s return. $A hangs in the balance

The Australian sharemarket will claim a last-minute rally ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration, despite lingering concerns the returning president’s opening orders could spell more trouble for Australia’s currency and largest trading partner.

Mr Trump will be sworn in as the 47th US president on Tuesday morning (AEDT). Sharemarket strategists are alert to the prospect of a policy surprise on his first day in office.
