The Australian sharemarket ended higher on Monday, with oil and gold stocks leading gains as fears of an imminent Russian military invasion of Ukraine rattled investors and lifted safe-haven assets.
The S&P/ASX 200 Index rose 0.4 per cent or 26.6 points, to 7243.9, further pulling away from a low of 6758.2 touched last month. Yet, only six out of 11 sectors closed the session higher, reflecting a cautious mood.
