Oil and gold rally lift Australian shares in cautious mood

The Australian sharemarket ended higher on Monday, with oil and gold stocks leading gains as fears of an imminent Russian military invasion of Ukraine rattled investors and lifted safe-haven assets.

The S&P/ASX 200 Index rose 0.4 per cent or 26.6 points, to 7243.9, further pulling away from a low of 6758.2 touched last month. Yet, only six out of 11 sectors closed the session higher, reflecting a cautious mood.
