Here’s the ‘sweet spot’ of the ASX that most investors overlook
Mid-cap stocks are abuzz with corporate activity, either in the form of business expansion or M&A, yet many people are too focused on other areas of the market to notice.
Australian equity investors have been missing an opportunity right before their eyes. Overlooked and underappreciated, the benchmark S&P/ASX MidCap 50 Index has been heralded as the sweet spot of the local equity universe.
Even S&P Dow Jones indices, the index provider of the more recognised S&P/ASX 200 and Small Ordinaries benchmarks, has said that Australia’s mid-cap segment had a more diverse sector representation than the country’s large-cap and broad-market benchmarks which are dominated by the banks.
