Australian shares are poised to rise as US shares ticked up at the promise of earnings from a host of megacap companies and the final stretch of the presidential election.

Sentiment also improved after developments in the Middle East over the weekend did not disrupt energy supplies. Brent crude was down 5.7 per cent.
