Super funds pile into disaster bonds as cyclones, floods rage

Australian superannuation funds and high net wealth investors are increasingly allocating money to catastrophe bonds, as they seek to bolster returns from a pick-up in extreme weather events around the world.

Colonial First State is among the latest to invest and has this year allocated up to 2 per cent of its $150 billion portfolio to the bonds that pay double-digit returns for helping to insure against natural disasters.
