The architect of the last competition review, Fred Hilmer , has backed a call to ensure consumers don’t end up paying high prices as governments push to sell assets to fix state finances.
Professor Hilmer, who led the landmark review of competition policy in the 1990s, said he did not believe governments were as focused on competition as they had been when the last wave of privatisations was undertaken in the 1990s.
