Fred Hilmer backs Sims over asset sales

The architect of the last competition review Fred Hilmer has backed a call to ensure consumers don’t end paying high prices as governments push to sell asset sales to fix state finances.

The architect of the last competition review, Fred Hilmer , has backed a call to ensure consumers don’t end up paying high prices as governments push to sell assets to fix state finances.

Professor Hilmer, who led the ­landmark review of competition policy in the 1990s, said he did not believe ­governments were as focused on ­competition as they had been when the last wave of privatisations was undertaken in the 1990s.
