The democratic project is backsliding, warns O’Neil

Australia should play a key role in reversing the global decline of democratic systems and structures, Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil said in a speech at Old Parliament House in Canberra.
“Many democratic countries are becoming less democratic. Like a virus, populists are replicating at an exponential rate,” Ms O’Neil said at the event on Monday night hosted by the Museum of Australian Democracy.
