Woodside looks inward after climate gambit defeated

The oil and gas producer felt the force of big super and green investors when it took a transition plan to shareholders. Now it has no choice but to do better on emissions.

When Richard Goyder meets one of Woodside Energy’s big shareholders, three-quarters of the meeting will be spent talking about climate change and the energy transition.

Goyder did 80 of those meetings in the past year. He met big investor AustralianSuper, vocal investor HESTA, supportive investor Allan Gray, combative proxy house Glass Lewis, retail investor associations – you name it, he met them and they talked.
