Australian navy given permission to enter Solomon Islands waters

An Australian warship has been given permission to enter Solomon Islands waters after Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare impose a temporary ban that saw British and US vessels turned away.

The arrival of HMAS Sydney to provide maritime surveillance support comes as the Albanese government formally offers to help fund Solomons Islands elections amid concerns Mr Sogavare’s bid to seek a parliamentary vote this week to delay the poll could spark fresh civil unrest.
