Consultants are cashing in on the money laundering and governance scandals plaguing Australia’s biggest casinos, with the gambling giants and their watchdogs each tapping a slew of firms to assist with cultural and regulatory overhauls.
Government inquiries into Crown Resorts in NSW, Victoria and Western Australia between 2019 and this year left the gambling giant to clock up hundreds of millions of dollars in consulting and legal fees to both report to the reviews and then oversee remediation plans. Crown’s rival The Star Entertainment Group is now being investigated by NSW and Queensland authorities, in what are known as the Bell and Gotterson inquiries.
