Labor has signalled it could back the Morrison government’s religious freedom bill before next year’s federal election, but is concerned the laws do not go far enough to protect gay and lesbian students from discrimination.
A day after Attorney-General Michaelia Cash released the latest version of the controversial legislation to government MPs and the public, Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese endorsed moves to protect churches and religious institutions to operate within the tenets of their beliefs.
