Looking back, what strikes the Financial Review’s then New York correspondent was how little people knew on the day.

When the first report comes on my radio that a plane has hit the north tower of the World Trade Center, I keep running. I turn to my neighbour jogging on the treadmill next to me and tell him a light aircraft has crashed into the corner of one of the towers.
