Foreign Minister Marise Payne has committed Australia to trying to reform global multilateral organisations from within, as she attacks China and Russia for sowing disinformation during the coronavirus pandemic.

An audit of Australia's involvement in multilateral bodies found that although the performance of some organisations had been left wanting, it was not in the country's interests to withdraw and leave other nations to shape global rules and norms without Australian influence.
