The Bolivian lowlands are a long way from the baroque capitals of Prague and Dresden. Yet in a few weeks’ time, intricately interwoven choral lines will drift out over the jungle, as the biennial International Music Festival of American Renaissance and Baroque Music rolls back into town.
Celebrating the sacred music written by European missionaries and indigenous people during the 17th and 18th century, and performed in World Heritage-listed Jesuit churches made of wood and adobe, the festival has been eagerly embraced by music-loving travellers.
