It’s 4pm on a sodden Friday when The Australian Financial Review Magazine arrives at the Hutchinson Builders office in the light industrial zone of Sydney’s Rosebery. The loading dock is overrun by people wearing black and wielding walkie-talkies. The only clue as to what’s afoot is a silver disco ball hanging from the ceiling.
“Party tomorrow?” I ask company chairman Scott Hutchinson upon finding him upstairs. He’s chatting to staff while sipping a beer in a Neoprene stubbie holder branded “Hutchinson 105 Years”. “The party is tonight,” he laughs. “It starts at six.”
