Pandemic has changed winter virus patterns, study finds

The pandemic has changed patterns of winter viruses in Australia to create new variants and an earlier flu season while leaving most strains extinct, new research shows.
But the extinct viruses will “likely rebound in the near future” with “stronger impact”, it found, meaning health systems need to prepare for larger winter illness outbreaks outside of regular seasonal periods.
