Scientist Phil Hansbro is a mad-keen birdwatcher, clocking up 7250 species spotted to date. He answers our Time Out Q&A.
Professor Phil Hansbro is head of the Centenary UTS Centre for Inflammation at the Centenary Institute. He lives in Sydney.
When did you start birding?
I’ve been into it for as long as I can remember. I have notes in a bird book from when I was seven. None of my friends or family were interested, but for some reason birds have always captured my attention. Birding is the only time in my life when I’m not thinking about my work. It helps me to recharge my batteries and takes me to places I would never normally go.
