How this rockin’ MD went from busking to a cover band

Dan Swart, the managing director of Hali Rugs, started his cover band as a musical gift at his mates’ weddings. More than a decade later, the group is still pumping. He answers our Time Out Q&A.

Dan Swart is managing director of handmade rug producer, Hali. He lives in Melbourne.

How did you end up starting a cover band?
It was born about 12 years ago while I was backpacking in Europe. I spent four weeks crashing on a mate’s couch in Paris. We spent nearly every afternoon busking together, making enough money every time to fund a fabulous night out that would always end back in the apartment playing our guitars till daybreak. We’ve been very close friends ever since. We played at his wedding in April.
