Grape growers and winemakers find strength in new alliances

Two South Australian initiatives show different responses to the challenge of developing a concept to cut through in today’s crowded marketplace.

Brian Cameron, grape grower for The Group, a collaboration between a South Australian growers’ collective and a big international wine company. 

The Australian wine industry has a long tradition of working collectively, from the grape grower co-operatives formed in the early 20th century in South Australia’s Riverland to the recent collaborative regional responses to the devastating bushfires.

Of course, working in collaboration isn’t enough on its own to ensure commercial success. Growers and makers also need to develop a good concept and promote it well to cut through in today’s increasingly crowded marketplace.
