There was a moment on the night of the recent federal election when Nine reporter Chris Uhlmann said: “Hands up everyone who’s wearing Carla Zampatti.” Julie Bishop, who’d just made a comment about incoming MP Allegra Spender being Zampatti’s daughter, raised hers, as did Uhlmann’s co-host Alicia Loxley and Labor’s Kate Ellis. Liberal MP Jane Hume said: “I’ve actually boycotted Carla Zampatti throughout this entire campaign.”
Later that evening, when Scott Morrison gave his concession speech, it took Twitter just a fleeting moment to realise that his wife, Jenny, was also wearing Zampatti in a curiously close to teal shade of sky blue. The name of the dress was even more ironic: Celebration.
