Melbourne needs a good scrub down, says this well-travelled style guru
Monocle magazine’s Tyler Brûlé is sought for his opinions on taste. He offers some thoughts on how Australia could boost its tourist appeal.
This year might mark a record amount of travelling for Tyler Brûlé. The stylemeister and founder of Monocle magazine (and, before that, Wallpaper) has been taking trips of two to three weeks, with just a few nights in between spent at home in Zurich.
When he sits down with The Australian Financial Review Magazine in late November, he’s midway through the following itinerary: Zurich, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Melbourne, Sydney, Dallas, Des Moines, Toronto, Doha, Abu Dhabi and back to Zurich. And all that in 20 days. “I’m travelling more than ever,” he says. “It slowed a bit during the pandemic, obviously. But even during the pandemic I managed to get around.”
