How Queensland became Australia’s fast fashion capital

Once seen as the home of relaxed style, the Sunshine State now hosts a slew of brands raking it in – and making a splash in the US – as the winds of fashion change.

The opening of Princess Polly’s store in San Diego, California this month. 

While Sydney and Melbourne might quibble over which state is the true Australian fashion capital, when it comes to fast fashion, Queensland might be the real winner.

Princess Polly and Petal & Pup, both of which trade in trend-driven, affordable clothing for young women, are now both owned by the same US conglomerate but continue to drive their “engine rooms” from the Sunshine State. With the addition of Dissh, another locally produced brand, it’s a shift that puts Queensland on the map as Australia’s new home of fashion.
