Happy 150th birthday to Steve Jobs’ favourite jeans
Levi’s is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its oldest style, the 501. Its appeal, says the company’s design director, is that it refuses to change.
″When you look at photos, there are jeans that definitely scream the decade,” says Paul O’Neill. “But if you look at the 501s … the ones made after the 1940s, they all look the same. They don’t change. And that’s what is magic about them. People will say, ‘Oh, I can’t believe I had that haircut’, but they’ll never say, ‘Oh, I can’t believe I wore those 501s’. They are a blank canvas.”
