Designer Perri Cutten remembered as ‘a pioneer of Australian fashion’

Lauren Sams

Revered Australian designer Perri Cutten died peacefully on Friday at her home in Melbourne. Known for her tailoring expertise, Cutten, 73, was a mainstay of Armadale’s High Street since opening her first store there in 1982.

Cutten, a graduate of Swinburne University, was a contemporary of designers such as Trent Nathan, Carla Zampatti and Anthea Crawford. She started as a graphic designer, but her love for fashion drew her to Melbourne’s former rag trade home, Flinders Lane, where she found a job assisting designer Geoff Bade.
