When interior designer Brahman Perera got married in 2016, his grandmother had carnations blessed at Melbourne’s Shri Shiva Vishnu Hindu temple and scattered them over him and his partner, restaurateur Jason Jones. “It was a lovely thing for her to do, and of course it tapped deeply into my Sri Lankan heritage,” Perera says.
It’s the memory of this occasion – with “loud music and conversation and food and people spilling things” – that he channelled in designing a series of rugs for the online carpets company Ruggable.
