The 2025 Formula 1 season starts on March 14-16 in its rightful place: Australia. We’ve played host to the opening race for 22 seasons – more than any other country. And now for the first time since 2019 (the 2020 race was cancelled due to COVID), we’re back in pole position.
The opening race has a special allure. Teams often “sandbag” – intentionally go slower – during pre-season testing, so it’s the first real indication of how each has progressed since they last raced. It’s also the first glimpse of how good the new drivers and driver-team combos might be.
